Book Description

Muslims believe that when a person accepts Islam, his or her past sins are wiped out. But can the past really be erased?

Joshua Adams has always been a wild child. He graduated from reckless childhood accidents to girls and alcohol. By the time he is twenty-three he has three children and a failing marriage. He leaves his wife, after yet another argument, and moves in with some Muslim guys he knows.

With the patient encouragement of his friends, Joshua begins to study Islam. Six months later he becomes a Muslim and looks forward to starting a new life. But his fresh start is overshadowed by echoes from his past.

First Joshua must conquer the old habits which haunt him after the initial excitement of his conversion has worn off. A trip to Pakistan and the guidance of a gentle host named Abdul-Qadir help him through the first difficult months as Joshua learns self-discipline and self-control.

When Joshua returns from Pakistan to his hometown of Chicago, his struggle begins. He must continue his new life as a practicing Muslim while facing difficulties from his past life: a bitter ex-wife, three children whom he abandoned, and strained relationships with his mother and two older brothers.

Joshua make the greatest jihad-the jihad of the self-as he struggles to overcome his past and become a true Muslim.

Echoes, the first book in the Echoes Series, is a story of determination and love.

Reviews

As salamu alaikum sister Jamilah,

I wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying the novels you have written. My husband picked them up at a recent conference he attended in Chicago. You have a great deal of talent and make your characters come alive. I've read books written by other Muslim writers that were almost painful to read, the characters were so stiff and the story so in your face preaching that my children hated them. It was with some misgivings I picked up that first novel of yours and started reading. What an exciting surprise to find a well written story! In fact I stayed up to finish the book. I was so happy I wanted to let you know. Keep them coming. These are books my children can enjoy.

Sincerely,
Joann Alabsy

Dear Sister Jamilah,

I just wanted to write to you and tell you how much I enjoyed reading your books. I have finished reading two of them already and am holding back on starting the third one simply because once I start it's almost impossible to put it down.

I am an avid reader of books, fiction and non-fiction and I must congratulate you on your writing ability. Masha Allah, you are a master storyteller. Your style is encapturing and very addictive. And the best part is that they serve the purpose of removing the stigma from the Muslim image. I have been recommending your books to all my friends and look forward to reading more of your books. Keep up the good work!

Yours Sincerely,
Lubna Alam

"...What makes the Echoes Series so compelling is the author's faithful portrayal of true life. ...it's nice to read Muslim fiction that isn't about perfect people doing perfect things, yet presents Islam accurately. With Jamilah Kolocotronis' books we can truly relate even if we haven't gone through the same things as Joshua. ...Jamilah Kolocotronis is a very talented writer who tells very realistic stories within an Islamic framework - something that American Islamic community has long awaited. We can only pray that she'll keep the Echoes Series going for years to come... (I pray for that too)"

"...If you are looking for an intriguing, mind captivating, and stimulating book, Rebounding is definitely one for you. You will find yourself reading away and finishing the book before you know it. One last recommendation - for greater enjoyment, make sure to read the first book of the Echoes Series before you read this sequel."
