Description

Jameelah Salih is a 27 year Muslim woman born to what appears to be one of the inner city's stronger blended American Muslim families. She works as a hair stylist with her two best friends in the city's only Muslim women's owned and operated hair salon, Covered Pearls. On appearance and material possessions alone Jameelah seems to be doing okay. What most don't know is that she is one traffic jam away from losing control of her life. Post 9/11 stresses seem to be creating negative impacts on everyone around her. Jameelah feels as though she is walking on eggshells and questions her own place in society. She prays for a change, but what will she do if change actually comes?

When a prominent Imam proposes marriage to Jameelah she feels as if it's the blessing that she has been waiting for from Allah. She knows marrying him will change her life, but when unexpected crisis erupts and family secrets are exposed, Jameelah is forced to make hard choices and put her complete faith in the only One unable to break it.

Reviews

"It was a real story, Muslims and non Muslims need to read this book." Thomas Abdullah, Host of American Muslim 360 Blogtalk Radio

"I love it." Tasleem Jamilla Firdausee, Host of RadioIslam.com

"The author has made the characters stunningly realistic, and has given them the ability to draw you into their plights and dilemmas. Not only do we have Jameelah, the main voice of the story, we also have her sister, Khadijah, their younger brother Adam, and a lovely young Muslim convert named Shevon. This book is a MUST READ, not only for Muslims, but for anyone seeking to catch a glimpse of being Muslim in the 21st century." – Latoya Lindsey on Amazon.com

November 13, 2009: It was hard to tear myself away from the book because I wanted to find out what was going to happen next with regards to Jameelah. The author truly made the characters come alive within the pages, and they have such depth. I found her ability to weave me in as a reader to Jameelah's flashback and bring bringing me back to the present was done nicely without confusion. I liked reading about Jameelah's struggles, and one could relate to her situation, the urban setting, the family etc. I truly recommend it as a great work of Islamic fiction, that any individual no matter what their religion, culture or age would enjoy. It's a keepsake and I look forward to reading more books from her! Bee H. from barnesandnoble.com

Umm Juwayriyah is a Muslim woman who, to put it simply, knows how to write and in this book she put so many things into perspective in a way that was not holier-than-thou or degrading. It really should be on every Muslim household's shelf. MashaAllah. – Umm Saalih on An-Najm Publishers

"It was really a page-turner. I really liked the character Jameelah and her family, and how the story was family-centered and Islamic. It was a real pleasure to read Muslim fiction (that wasn't my own!) :o) I must honestly say it's the first Muslim fiction book I've read that I felt really connected to the characters and the plot. May Allah make your writing pleasing to Him in this world and in the Hereafter. Congratulations. May Allah bless you. You really have a talent for writing. I assume you're working on Covered Pearls Book 2? your sister in Islam, Umm Zakiyyah - Author of "If I Should Speak" and "A Voice"
